Short Time Behavior in de Gennes’ Reptation Model

چکیده
To establish a standard for the distinction of reptation from other modes of polymer diffusion, we analytically and numerically study the displacement of the central bead of a chain diffusing through an ordered obstacle array for times t , O sN2d. Our theory and simulations agree quantitatively and show that the second moment approaches the t1y4 power law (often viewed as a signature of reptation) only after a very long transient and only for long chains (N . 100). Our analytically solvable model furthermore predicts a very short transient for the fourth moment. This is verified by computer experiment. [S0031-9007(97)02510-6]

Direct observation of the transition from free to constrained single-segment motion in entangled polymer melts.
We report a direct determination of the time dependent mean-squared segment displacement of a polymer chain in the melt covering the transition from free to constraint Rouse relaxation along the virtual tube of the reptation model. This has been achieved by a neutron spin-echo (NSE) measurement of the segmental self-correlation function as conveyed by the spin-incoherent scattering from two ful...
متن کاملSegment Motion in the Reptation Model of Polymer Dynamics. I. Analytical Investigation
We analyze the motion of individual beads of a polymer chain using a discrete version of De Gennes' reptation model that describes the motion of a polymer through an ordered lattice of obstacles. The motion within the tube can be evaluated rigorously; tube renewal is taken into account in an approximation motivated by random walk theory. We find microstructure effects to be present for remarkab...
متن کاملThe dynamics of entangled polymers
2014 The dynamics of linear chain polymers is studied in concentrated solutions. This paper is based on the « reptation » model of de Gennes, which is a theory of the motion of a polymer in the presence of many topological constraints. Here theoretical and numerical work is presented to extend this theory to include many chain interactions. A theoretical argument is presented that gives the sca...
متن کاملQuantitative Tube Model Predictions for the Linear Viscoelasticity of Linear Polymers
Tube models derived from the basic ideas of De Gennes and Doi & Edwards on reptation of entangled chains have made tremendous progress in the past 30 years and have now reached a quantitative level for the prediction of linear viscoelasticity of linear polymers. After a concise reminder of key experimental features of dynamic moduli, we first review the fundamental ingredients of quantitative t...
متن کاملJosephson Current For a Graphene Nanoribbon Using a Lattice Model
A tight binding approach based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach has been used to calculate the DC Josephson current for a lattice model for S-GNR-S junctions , for short junctions with respect to superconducting coherence length. We calculate the phase, length, width and chemical potential dependence at the Josephson junction and discuss the similarities and differences with regard to the t...
